Our humble beginnings: A powerful idea takes root
ETCO was born from a pivotal conversation after a reading of "Stormy the Musical." In Erie, Pennsylvania, Kellie Turner, Dominique Denman, and Kelley Ulmer lamented the lack of diverse African American stories being told on stage. This shared vision ignited the spark for ETCO, a company dedicated to filling that void and giving voice to underrepresented narratives.
Our journey today: Expanding our reach and impact
From those initial discussions, ETCO has grown significantly, now performing in three Pennsylvania cities: Lancaster, York, and Erie. We continue to develop "Stormy the Musical" with the hopeful goal of a fall 2027 regional production. Our dedication extends beyond the stage, encompassing vital youth programming, advocating for social justice, and providing crucial support for LGBTQ+ youth experiencing homelessness. We believe in the transformative power of theater to create positive change.

Beyond captivating performances, ETCO is fundamentally driven by core values of justice, inclusion, and education. We are committed to providing and teaching valuable skills that can empower individuals and turn into viable careers in the arts and beyond. Through every production and program, we aim to challenge perceptions, foster empathy, and build a more equitable society.
Making a real difference: Stories of impact
ETCO's work extends into the heart of our community. Thanks to support from the PA Council of the Arts, we were able to host a powerful workshop and event focused on preventing gun violence, fostering crucial dialogue and awareness. Our production of Langston Hughes' "Black Nativity" also created a unique and heartwarming opportunity for a grandmother and granddaughter to perform together on stage, forging unforgettable memories and connections through art.
Our vision for the future: Cultivating the next generation
Our biggest dream is to launch a performing arts academy/school in conjunction with our valued community partners. We envision a thriving after-school and summer program for young aspiring artists, providing them with comprehensive training, mentorship, and a platform to hone their talents. We are dedicated to nurturing the creative leaders of tomorrow.
